La Viola.2

VIOLA.2 is an apartment housed in a building of Roman and early medieval origin, located in Via degli Orti 4, less than 50 meters from the square of Santa Chiara, in Assisi.

The apartment is located on the ground floor of a building, an area usually used as a merchant’s foundry or as a workshop of the craftsman, who often used for some processing  the narrow courtyard behind, now another property.

In medieval times the town houses are mostly single-family. These are usually shop houses in which both the master and his family live, as well as apprentices and workers; they are often rented houses. The strong urbanization entailed an overlap between the ancient urban structures of the Roman era and the need to accommodate more and more people within the city walls.

Thus begin to rise masonry tower-houses, which also develop on four or five floors.

VIOLA.2 was probably a place of pottery, as can be seen from the discovery of many decorated clay fragments and a terracotta mould for a holy water font.

The walls consist of supporting stone arches, probably dating back to the eighth century and arches and cross vault of the following centuries.

Below the attic there are the remains of the Roman city, such as the “Sanguinone aqueduct” of Roman times that brought water from the mountain to the city. They can be visited from the well opened in the early Middle Ages and used until the Second World War as a water supply first and as a shelter for the population under bombardment then.

Respecting the historical value of the structure, VIOLA. 2 is equipped with all the comforts for the bathroom, the bedroom and the kitchen. It also has free wifi.

It consists of a double bedroom equipped with TV, en suite bathroom and a small but well-organized walk-in closet.

The remaining space is occupied by the modern kitchen with table and chairs and an area with two sofas that can be transformed into comfortable beds, one for double use and one for single use.

There is also a second bathroom and a service room used as a laundry room.

It is possible to have a crib on customer request.
